Myself and 20 other friends on a daytrip to Lisdoonvarna called in here for drinks and music. However one of our party needed to take medicine and asked for water. She was offered sparking water which she cannot take with her medicine so asked for tap water and was refused. One of our party had small amount of water in bottle. As our friend started to take her medicine the bar man and barwoman started shouting abuse at us telling us we couldn’t drink water here.
We left. Irish hospitality is not in Rathbaun Hotel.!! I recently went to the Rathbaun even though I said I would never go back again. I was with some friends who persuaded me to go and what a difference a year makes. Smiles all round and yes even from Lynn.

For the month of September, this tiny spa town of residents hosts the popular Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival — a month-long celebration bringing together hopeful romantics from around the world. The festival is notorious for its lively all-day, all-night dancing and impromptu marriage proposals often triggered after a few pints at the pub. A third-generation matchmaker, Daly is best known for presiding over the festival.
Matchmaking is one of Ireland’s oldest traditions and, for the last couple of hundred years, a good deal of it has taken place in Lisdoonvarna.
